Swedish Massage The most common type of massage and reduces stress, while increasing relaxation. The Therapist will use several basic strokes, applied with light to medium pressure, depending on the client's preference.
Myofascial release is a manipulative treatment that attempts to release tension in the fascia due to trauma, posture, or inflammation. Connective tissues called fascia surround the muscles, bones, nerves, and organs of the body. Trauma, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures create myofascial restrictions that can produce tensile pressures of pain sensitive structures that do not show up in many of the standard tests (x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography, etc.).
Lymphatic drainage is a therapeutic massage treatment. The massage is used to help fight infection and transports nutrients and oxygen to the cells. This modality uses very light pressure and long, gentle, rhythmic strokes to increase the flow of lymph and reduce toxins in your body.
Pre Natal & Postpartum Massage
Massage therapy during pregnancy is a wonderful complementary choice for prenatal care. It is a healthy way to reduce stress and promote overall wellness. Massage relieves many of the normal discomforts experienced during pregnancy, such as backaches, stiff neck, leg cramps, headaches and edema or swelling. Postpartum massage can be as important and beneficial as massage during pregnancy. Postpartum bodywork is an effective and benefits include hormone regulation, reduced swelling, better sleep and improved breastfeeding.
This modality uses light to medium pressure, with the focus being trauma/injury to a ligament/tendon/strain. This will relieve and/or prevent muscular and soft tissue pain, dysfunction, and injuries.
Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a form of bodywork or alternative therapy using gentle touch to palpate the synarthrodial joints of the cranium. A practitioner of cranial-sacral therapy may also apply light touches to a patient's spine and pelvic bones.
This modality uses medium to firm pressure, with the main focus being acupressure points throughout the body. Acupressure Massage is a form of touch therapy that utilizes the principles of acupuncture and Chinese medicine. In acupressure, the same points on the body are used as in acupuncture, but are stimulated with finger pressure instead of with the insertion of needles.
Deep tissue massage therapy is similar to Swedish massage, but the deep to medium pressure is beneficial in releasing chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia.
This technique focuses on insertion and origin of a specific muscle and/or strain applying firm pressure, using the Golgi Tendon Organ (GTO) and Spindle Cell Technique (SCT). The main focus is the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal pain and associated pathologies.
Neuromuscular Trigger Point Therapy
This modality uses medium to firm pressure, with the main focus on trigger/pressure points throughout the body. Myofascial trigger point therapy provides a framework which may be used to help address certain musculoskeletal pain.
Soft tissue therapy (STT) is the assessment, treatment and management of soft tissue injury, pain and dysfunction primarily of the neuromusculoskeletal system, using medium to firm pressure as the muscle is stretched in an eccentric direction. This technique will release strain within the soft tissues of the muscle.
This form of bodywork is geared toward athletics, to help prevent injuries applying medium to firm pressure, with static pressure and compression This modality will help athletes recover from workouts and injuries.
By using hot stones, with light, medium or firm pressure, this aids as an extension of the therapists own hands. Heated stones can be worked into the muscles, for deeper relaxation that will help warm up tight muscles, so firmer pressure can be applied for additional effective work.
This modality is a modification of existing massage techniques, in order to safely work with complications of cancer and cancer treatments. This modality uses light pressure, with acupressure points being firm to ease specific sore spots. Lymphatic rerouting is utilized, as well as increasing blood and stem cell promotion.
Use of cold stones during a massage encourages a deep state of relaxation, releasing of tension, as well as a reduction of swelling and inflammation from scar tissue, trauma or injuries to muscles will occur. Light, medium or firm pressure can be applied. This modality is often used for migraines, sports injuries, PMS, etc.
Thai massage consists of slow, rhythmic compressions and stretches along the body's energy lines. Medium to firm pressure along meridian lines throughout the body will be used.
Reflexology Massage
Reflexology uses medium to firm pressure on reflex maps on the feet, hands and ears. This not only helps the muscular, circulatory and lymphatic systems, but also profoundly effects the inside of the body.
Lomi Lomi massage is given in fluid, rhythmic motion using the forearms as well as the hands. This is often described as feeling like gentle waves moving over the body. During the session, different parts of the body may be massaged at the same time, which assists the recipient in totally relaxing, as it is impossible for the brain to focus on the two different areas at once. By doing this, a deep sense of balance and harmony is achieved (90-minute minimum).
